I came out to visit my client’s new home and the back yard was a weed garden since final grade had not been done yet.
I love this opportunity for a blank canvas yet this project presented some unique challenges:
We ended up with a Large outdoor living space with steps to the slider, a built in Gas Grill and Gas Fire Table surrounded by a cozy step/seat and columns.
Our Client did a lot of research
He found the product online and brought it to me as a material option during our quoting process. A block is not always a block. In other words, manufacturers use different methods to create structural integrity and have different sizes, colors etc. so there is always a learning curve with new products so using them creates a lot of work on the front end. But these pictures kind of say it all…
The back yard sat 6′ above the sidewalk
spread out over about 18 feet to meet the maximum slope allowed for new construction of 3 to 1 and avoid the cost of a retaining wall.
Erosion would be a factor so we bulked up on the base. We used underlayment fabric under almost 12 inches of crushed limestone to reinforce the project.
